What is Art Conservation?
Art conservation encompasses all those actions taken toward the long-term preservation of cultural heritage. Conservation activities include examination, documentation, treatment, and preventive care, scientific analysis, materials and artist research. Conservators are trained through graduate study that encompass topics in chemistry, art history, studio art, and hands-on training. Conservation in the US is also guided by a code of ethics as described by the American Institute for Conservation.
